Trailblazers supports the NSPCC's life-changing Childline service

Since our first event, Trailblazers has raised nearly £100,000 for Childline, helping this vital service to answer calls from children and young people who feel they have nowhere else to turn. Our events committee strongly back the NSPCC's mission that no child should suffer abuse. Struggling with devastating trauma, violence and neglect is too much for children.

Why Childline needs your help

We know that half a million children a year suffer abuse in the UK. That means seven children in a classroom experience abuse before they turn 18, all while more and more children are being put at risk by new dangers in the world around them. This must change. At home, in school or online, every child deserves to be safe and happy. We have shattered the silence around child abuse. With your support, we can protect children today and prevent abuse tomorrow.

The NSPCC helps hundreds of thousands of children through Childline, which is available online, on the phone, anytime.

Every day, Childline is giving hope to children who feel desperate or invisible. Listening to their worries and fears, our volunteer counsellors act immediately whenever a child's life is in danger.

Childline also provides children and young people with a safe, supportive and confidential space where they can get information and advice, talk and be listened to, and start to get the help they need. When problems build up, it can be hard for young people to find solutions or know who they can ask for help.

They contact Childline because they don’t feel able to talk to anyone else. They may not want to worry or upset their parents, feel like they are a burden to others, or worry about getting in trouble if they share the things that have been happening to them. They may have been threatened into silence, been told it’s their fault, or feel afraid or ashamed.

Our 360 virtual reality film (below), based on real stories and contacts to the service, gives a powerful insight into what goes on inside Childline counselling rooms and what it’s like to be a Childline counsellor.

Our fundraising activities, such as our prize draws, could help run the Childline service. It costs £4 for trained counsellors to answer a child's call in their time of need.
